About
I’m Jo Gardner, a freelance instructional designer based in the UK. I design clear, engaging learning experiences that help people do their jobs or hobbies better, faster, and with more confidence. My background spans education, unschooling, and experiential learning, which means I understand how people actually learn—not just how they’re taught.
I combine creativity with evidence-based design. Every course or workbook I create is grounded in learning theory, shaped by real-world context, and built for impact. I focus on microlearning, scenario-based eLearning, and reflective resources that make learning stick. My approach is simple: listen closely, design intentionally, and deliver efficiently.
I believe learning should feel human. My designs favour clarity over clutter and curiosity as well as compliance. Whether I’m building a corporate compliance module or a creative skills course for small businesses, I aim to make the experience both meaningful and usable.
Outside of work, I’m happiest with a stack of books or out in nature; often both together depending on the Lancashire weather! I’m always learning, and that curiosity fuels everything I design.
